Trail of the Eagles
This excursion takes place in the territory of the Ogliastra heels near the town of Gairo Taquisara called "The Path of the Eagles" that follows the steps of an ancient path that was called "Su Caminu de su Filu." The path, perfectly maintained by the local forestry workers, begins with a short uphill stretch that develops in the shade of a pine tree fruit of a reforestation, with a good bottom and a characteristic wooden fence. Climbing up the pine forest gives way to the Mediterranean scrub and further on to an almost lunar landscape, the result of a huge cut of an ancient forest that characterized the area now called "Su Segau" where we meet the cave of Cabu Abbas. After the plateau the path descends to the village of "Is Tostoinus" where there is a picnic area and a pastoral hut immersed in the shade of the holm oaks and in the vicinity of a perennial natural pond, a nuraghe and a tomb of giants. Our route continues along the Paule' and Tunnis Valley in the direction of the Perdu Isu nuraghe with the sacred well and then arrive at the Valley of the Rates. Holding the walls of Taccu on the right the rates and the cyclopici massi detached from the rock accompany us in the direction of the point of departure in the small village of Gairo Taquisara Points of interest: On Segau, Cabu Abbas cave, Is Tostoinus, Paule valley and Tunis, Nuraghe Perdu Isu, Valley of the Rates.
