WHERE WE ARE
The Taquisara Cave is located in the central eastern part of Sardinia, in Ogliastra, in the hamlet called Gairo Taquisara, of the Municipality of Gairo Sant'Elena.
To get there, from the SS 125 take the exit for Jerzu, then take the old SS 125 Orientale Sarda towards Jerzu. Then take the SP 11 until you pass the small villages of Jerzu, Ulassai, Osini and Osini vecchio until you get to the SS 198 proceeding in the direction of Gairo Taquisara, take the left and go north.
The entrance is located right on the slopes of the limestone walls, 150 meters above the town that is located at the bottom of the valley, on the plateau. It is reachable by a walk of about 15 min, following a well-marked path and mostly in the woods, which goes up the side of the valley, starting from the new ring road at a house of the aqueduct. You can reach it by car, but the cart track is a few kilometres long, a single lane for the two directions of travel, with very few gaps in which to flank. Wanting to do it in the days of low influx, from the town you have to continue along the Ospitone street only for a hundred meters, following the signs turn right into Via San Giorgio. We follow it for two hundred and fifty meters including a curve to the right, then turn left on a stretch with a steep slope and no protections, which leads in just over 500 meters to the parking lot. Here you can leave the car or manoeuvre, but the available seats are enough for up to six cars.
