Thanks to the good will, courage and preparation of several speleological groups, who have taken turns in the venture to reveal the secrets hidden in the limestone of this area of Sardinia, speleological research, conducted since 1965 in the Gairo-areaUlassai-Seui, led to discover, survey, explore and detect over thirty caves. The most important among these are the Cave of "Su Marmuri" (in the Tacco di Ulassai-Osini, characterized by rooms over 20 meters wide, on a total development of 860 meters) and the "Cave Taquisara" (in the Tacco di Taquisara, with small rooms that allow the close observation of the enormous wealth of concretions, on a total development of at least 1,070 meters). Other minor caves surveyed are those of Trodori, Lecorci, Is Lianas, Brecca 'e Andriana, Funtana Trodori and sa Foxi s'Abba in agro of Ulàssai, those of Serbissi, Su Lioni, Nino Businco, s'Armidda, Orroli, Brecca 'e Usala, Brecca 'e Su Cascu, Pozzo delle Stelle, Grutta 'e s'Orroli in territorio di Osini; quella di Stampu 'e Trulu e Scala 'e Cannas ad Ussassai; Cabudu Abba, Su Coloru, Grutta 'e s'Arena, Grotta di Genna 'e Ua (o Grutta Manna), Grutta 'e Munserra, Grotta del Capretto, Grotta della Lancia, Grutta sa Bulverera, Cave of Bowls, Grutta 'e sa Mela and the Gutter of Pauli 'e Tunisi, in the part of Gairo.
Among all these caves, which can be reached by the most experts using the access coordinates, we can in particular point out Grotta “de Sa Bruvuriera” (which opens right above the town of Gairo Taquisara) and Grotta “Genneua” (known locally with the name of “Sa Grutta Manna”), both near Grotta Taquisara, but also “sa Grutta de Perda 'e Liana”. Furthermore, just 150 m south-west of Nuraghe Serbissi (950 m above sea level), there is the "Grutta 'e Munserra"; returning near the road, two hundred meters beyond the toll booth, you can see the large entrance to the Grotta delle Felci; continuing towards Gairo, a short distance from the now abandoned crushed stone quarry, there is the small "Grutta 'e is Ossus". Moving beyond the Ussassai station, at Km 108 of the railway line, just before arriving at Gairo Taquisara, there is the area called “Cabu de Abba” where the cave of the same name is located, further upstream from the which includes the “Grutta de su Coloru” and the “Gruttixedda Cabu de Abba”, while slightly to the left is the “Grutta de sa Lancia”.
